FAQ

Hiring in Egypt: what European companies ask

How much does a software developer in Egypt cost compared to Germany?

A senior backend engineer costs about €8,273 a month in Germany: €6,833 average gross plus €1,440 employer contributions at 2026 rates. Hired in Cairo through Valinor, the same role is one all-in invoice of about €3,733 a month, 55% less. Across all 33 roles Valinor prices, the saving averages about 60%.

Do I need a company or entity in Egypt to hire there?

No. A local employer of record in Egypt is the legal employer: it signs the local employment contract, runs payroll and pays tax and social insurance. You sign one contract with Valinor, a company registered in Berlin, and pay one monthly invoice in euros. There is no subsidiary to found and no German employer contributions to pay.

How does hiring through an employer of record (EOR) in Egypt work?

You pick the hire from a Valinor shortlist and interview them yourself. A local employer of record in Egypt then employs them: it holds the contract and handles payroll, tax and labour-law compliance. You set the goals, share your tools and track the results day to day. Valinor bills you one monthly invoice in euros.

What hours does a team in Cairo work?

Berlin hours. A Valinor team in Cairo works the same working day as your office in Germany, so standups, code reviews and calls happen live rather than overnight. Cairo is never more than one hour ahead of Berlin, and the team keeps Berlin's hours rather than Cairo's, so the two working days overlap completely.

Do the hires in Egypt speak German?

Every Valinor hire works in English. Roles that need German, such as Customer Care Agent – German and Escalation Management, are hired at C1 German alongside English. For 9 more finance and operations roles, such as accounts payable, procurement and HR administration, German is a plus that can be screened for. You set the language requirement in your brief.

How long does it take to hire a team in Egypt?

About one week from brief to start. You send the role, seniority, stack and language requirements; Valinor comes back with a shortlist you interview yourself. Once you choose, the employer of record issues the local contract and onboards the hire. A notice period at the candidate's current job can add time.

What does Valinor charge?

One all-in monthly invoice per hire, in euros, and a one-off hiring fee of 20% of that hire's first year of invoices, charged in two instalments: 50% when the hire starts, 50% after the three-month probation period. The brief, the shortlist and the interviews cost nothing: there is no fee until someone starts. The calculator on valinor-agency.com shows both figures for your team.

Who sets the team's priorities in Egypt?

You do. The hires work on your projects and in your tools, with a team lead as day-to-day contact, and report to you on results. Valinor and the employer of record handle the employment side only: the contract, payroll, compliance and local labour law. What the team works on stays with you.
